The battle of smartphone brands under 25k in India just got better with Oppo and Vivo coming up with their new launches, each promising to be the ultimate selfie device. Vivo launched V9 – the first budget device in India to get the notch for display, and soon after, Oppo launched F7 – a commendable device within 22k. Here’s our review of Oppo F7.

Oppo F7 gets the 2 MHz octa-core MediaTek Helio P60 processor, with 64GB internal memory and 4GB RAM. A special edition has also been launched for 27k, which has 6GB RAM and 128GB inbuilt memory with the same processor. For the display, you have a 6.23-inch FHD+ touchscreen with the notch option and resolution of 1080 pixels by 2280 pixels. When it comes to selfie cameras, Oppo always manages to enthrall, and this time, you get a 25MP front shooter and a 16MP shooter on the rear. All sensors, including Accelerometer, Ambient light sensor, are as required, and so are the connectivity options.
In all fairness, Oppo F7 is a credible device with decent hardware. Yes, it is not the best in business, but we tried long-video calling and extensive graphic-based games and found no lags. Oppo F7 also doesn’t lag in multitasking. The cameras, expectedly, are good in low lighting and the front shooter uses AI to enhance the images. The display is even more stunning, even in sunlight, and the 19:9 aspect ratio gives it a very iPhone X vibe.
Unlike Vivo V9, it’s immediate competitor, Oppo F7 doesn’t have a dual camera setup on the rear. The 16MP inclusion is average at best for the price. We also didn’t understand why Oppo would include Type-C port for that price. There can be some warming issues with video calling, not extensive though.
Oppo F7 is good selfie phone by all means, and it seems that the brand has a winner on the cards. If you go by reviews, it has ranked better than V9 but will also compete with the likes of Moto X4 and new devices coming from Asus.
